Demi Chef

University College (UC) is a leading residential college located in Parkville providing academic and wellbeing support for its students in a friendly, relaxed and supportive community. Its undergraduate and graduate students are enrolled at the University of Melbourne and other nearby tertiary institutions. The College also hosts conferences, functions and events throughout the year.

Reporting ultimately to the Executive Chef, the Demi Chef is responsible for high quality food service provision catering 7 days per week for approx. 345 tertiary students and staff at breakfast, lunch and dinner, in addition to high level catering for functions and conferences. 

This busy, hands on role will provide you the opportunity to:

  • Demonstrate your Demi/Commis Chef experience gained in a banqueting/function background
  • Apply your excellent cooking skills including some knowledge of dietary/cultural requirements
  • Use your initiative, versatility and organisation skills
  • Draw on your strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills along with respectful behaviour
  • Opportunity to progress through the 8 person kitchen brigade

This position is based on a 7.5hr day, 4 or 5 days per week across 7 days, with flexibility to work weekends as required. Salary is in line with experience, and minimum Certificate of Proficiency in Cooking is required.

University College Resident Tutor

University College (UC) is seeking Resident Tutors who have completed their Bachelor’s degree in Arts, Architecture, Building and Planning, Media and Communication, Science, Health Sciences, Law, Commerce, Engineering, Fashion and Textiles, Property, Design.

Resident Tutors will be appointed to start in mid-July 2021 to provide academic support to our student body. A Resident Tutor is expected to organise weekly subject-based tutorials and will be an academic mentor for around 20 first year students. Resident Tutors will be committed to supporting student wellbeing and ensuring that the support is in line with the College’s processes. They will also undertake after hours and weekend ‘duty shift’ responsibilities in collaboration with our Youth Workers.

A willingness to be engaged in the University College community and to work with UC students is of paramount importance in considering suitability for this position.  The Resident Tutors are to have a visible presence in the College and be outstanding role models for the student body. Resident Tutors are also expected to engage in the hosting of guests and visitors at College events.
