Our serviced, fully self contained apartments offer a quality and affordable style of accommodation right on the city’s edge.

A home away from home

One bedroom and two bedroom apartments are available and are all equipped with climate controlled heating and air conditioning, a study area, living room with TV/DVD combo, clock radio, free internet access (both wired and wifi), a kitchenette and a private bathroom. There also are free laundry facilities within each apartment block, including a washer/dryer.

Visiting academics also have access to other UC facilities, including the library (24 hour resource centre, computers and printers), music rooms and tennis court. Onsite car parking is available.

Rates for apartments include bed and breakfast, lunch and dinner, bed linen and towels, and weekly servicing.

Who can stay at the University College Apartments?

Our apartments are tailored to academics and researchers visiting the University, Hospital and Research precincts. We also offer special rates for members of the ‘UC Family’ – UC alumni or current parents of students. However the apartments are available at certain times of the year for anyone visiting Melbourne – please contact us should you wish to stay!

What are University College’s office hours?

Monday to Friday: 8.30am – 5.30pm

What time is check-in?

Check-in: 2.00pm onwards

If you anticipate arriving earlier than 2.00pm you are more than welcome to store your luggage at the College and have some lunch or explore the University or surrounding suburbs until your apartment is ready. Please note if you would like a confirmed early check-in you are required to book and pay for the night prior to arrival.

If you anticipate arriving over a weekend, or after 5.30pm on a weekday, arrangements can be made with one of our Resident Tutors to meet and greet you, check-you in, and show you to your apartment. This service is only available until 10pm. We can provide a self check-in service should you be arriving after 10pm.

What time is check-out?

Check-out: 10am

If your flight or onward travels do not require you to depart until later in the day you are more than welcome to store your luggage with us after checking out. Please note, if you would like a confirmed late check-out you are required to book and pay for an additional night’s accommodation in order to secure day use of the apartment.

Please note, apartments are not allocated until approximately one week prior to arrival, therefore your apartment number and phone extension cannot be provided until this time. In the meantime, the above details can be given out as a contact and all mail and calls will be redirected accordingly by Reception.

Why are apartments not allocated until one week prior to arrival?

Due to frequent reservation updates and amendments, apartments are not allocated until closer to the arrival date.

How far is University College from the University of Melbourne?

University College adjoins the University of Melbourne and Princes Park. The main University campus is a short 3-5 minute walk.

Are the academic apartments located in the main building where the students reside?

Academic visitors enjoy the seclusion of separate apartment buildings with private access, as well as the opportunity to fully participate in the community life of the College, including invitations to High Table dinners on Monday and Tuesday evenings.

What amenities are in the apartments?

All apartments contain the following: a bedroom, study area, living room (with TV/DVD combo, internet access and telephone), a kitchen or kitchenette and a private bathroom. Some apartments have a separate study or second bedroom.

What are the kitchen/kitchenette facilities in the apartments?

Apartments include either a full kitchen or kitchenette with fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster and crockery. Coffee/tea/milk sachets are also provided on arrival.

Do the apartments come with laundry facilities?

Complimentary laundry facilities are available within each apartment building and include a washer, dryer and washing powder. An iron, ironing board and clothes rack are also provided in apartments.

Do the apartments have air conditioning and heating?

All apartments contain climate controlled heating and air conditioning.

Are there any additional electrical appliances available for academic visitors?

Travel necessities such as hairdryers and international adaptors are available for use from reception.

What general facilities are available at University College?

Facilities available to academic visitors include 24-hour use of the Resource Centre – a modern library with special collections, computers and internet access. Academic visitors may also make use of University College music rooms and the tennis court.

What facilities do you have for children?

Children are welcome to accompany parents during their stay at University College, but as we are a student residential college we do not have specific amenities for young children. Please note that there are no cots available for use.

How often is the apartment serviced?

Apartments are serviced on a weekly basis.

What meals are included? Can you cater for various dietary requirements?

All meals – breakfast, lunch and dinner – are complimentary and served in the College dining hall.The kitchen can cater for all ranges of dietary requirements, and a vegetarian option is offered at each meal sitting.

Are the visiting academics required to interact with the students and residents?

Visiting academics automatically become members of the Senior Common Room – a relaxation space for graduate residents and associates. Pre-dinner drinks and after dinner drinks are served there during the academic year on High Table nights (Mondays and Tuesdays) for all members who wish to attend.

Academic visitors can also participate in the academic program for students by giving informal seminars in their research areas, hosting round table dinners in the dining room or seminars for small student groups. All of these activities are optional for guests.

What is the internet and phone rate?

Internet (both cabled and wifi) is included free of charge in the Apartments. Local calls are 15c per call.

Is car parking available?

Free car parking is available onsite for Apartment guests (one space per Apartment). A taxi to/from the airport should take between 20-30 minutes (depending on traffic) and cost between $35-$45.

What is the best way to get from Melbourne Airport to University College?

A taxi or shuttle bus is the most convenient mode of transport from the airport. Or you can take the Skybus to Southern Cross Station and catch an onward tram from there.

Where can I find public transport information?

The college is located only ten minutes by tram or taxi from Melbourne’s CBD. The nearest tram stop is right outside the college on Royal Parade – Tram route 19.
