2018 Broughton Seminar

Head of College, Dr Jennifer McDonald welcomed Visiting Fellow, Dr Lynne Broughton (UWC 1964) to Leggatt Hall on Tuesday 13 February, 2018 to deliver her seminar entitled "Jan Srzednicki: His Life and Works".

Having Professor Srzednicki as her PhD supervisor at the University of Melbourne and having developed a life long friendship with him after her studies, Dr Broughton's seminar was incredibly insightful placing many of the works around the room into context.

Dr Broughton has been instrumental in amalgamating many of Srzednicki's works to be kept at University College and these works are now proudly displayed in the Ellis Wing to be enjoyed by students and guests on a daily basis.

Officially launching the University College Art Fund, Dr McDonald encouraged members of the College community to consider gifts to the College through this new fund.

“It’s too soon to evaluate his artistic work. He was, of necessity, an amateur, in the strict sense of not earning his living with his art. He had no art students and no artistic influence. But his work shows great skill, insight and humour and I hope will come to be appreciated for these.”
- Dr Lynne Broughton (Fellow of the College, UWC 1964)
