Governors High Table
Governors High Table
Head of College Jennifer McDonald and President of College Council, Anne Cronin played host to a number of our wonderful UC Governors at the Governors High Table on Monday 28 August. Included in this esteemed group was Mr Arron Wood, former young Australian of the Year and current acting Lord Mayor of Melbourne, who spoke to those present in Syme Dining Hall about his time and College and his adventures since.
"University College has 96 living Governors as of today. Governors come to the College from vast industries and backgrounds; some are alumni, some are donors and some are members of the wider education industry who have a passion for the enhancement of educational opportunities for young people." Jennifer McDonald, Head of College
When the formal committee to establish University Women’s College drew up its first constitution, it provided that the Governors of the College would include, among others, those who up to the February 1937 closing of the fundraising appeal had contributed the sum of £2 or more. Of course, over time, things changed and appointment on merit became the new order of the day. In 1996 the Articles of Association of the incorporated College were amended to provide that Governors of the College were the members of the Council during their tenure, and “such other persons as may be nominated by the Council in recognition of their contribution to the College.”
