University College Indigenous Footy Jerseys
It was very exciting to see the new UC Indigenous jerseys in action on the field in recent weeks. These were a student initiative, led by our Indigenous Representative, Jasmine, alongside our Sports Representatives, Pip and Theo. They worked with contemporary digital artist Cortney Glass, a Dagoman, Wardaman, and Gurindji woman whose designs are inspired by her passion for her culture, family and the art form of digital art. Jasmine spoke about what inspired the design when collaborating with the artist: “The meeting place (centre circle) in the Jersey represents the idea of people gathering together, incorporating a sense of connection and the representation of different individuals helping to create a community. There are blue lines and footsteps of all different sizes all over the design. These represent the different educational journeys everyone at UC is on and how, although they lead in different directions, they are all still attached to one place (University College). In the design we wanted to incorporate the colours of the college to keep with traditional ties and heritage, while adding a new spin to the design."
