Wellbeing Week 2025 Recap
Every year at University College, our residential students enjoy a Wellbeing Week in their first semester. This is a week centred around the opportunity to recharge and reset. This year, a variety of activities and events were carefully planned by the 2025 Wellbeing Committee, our College Wellbeing Coordinator Stephanie Poynton, and our 2025 Wellbeing Representative Oscar Rayel. These events were designed to support students during a busy academic period.
The week kicked off with a high-energy and enthusiastic Zumba class led by instructor Mem Gusman. With the sun shining, over 20 students began their morning with energetic movement to uplift their spirits and clear their minds. Around campus, banners and supportive messages reminded everyone to look after their mental and emotional wellbeing, and to reflect on their habits—especially important during what can be a stressful exam season.

Tuesday revolved around two classic student favourites: caffeine and pets. A coffee cart was available in the dining hall all day to help boost concentration and energy—vital for better study and focus. We also welcomed therapy dogs into the academic centre. These furry friends roamed the college, giving students a playful pause and a chance to relax, reduce stress, and take a break from study.

Creativity was the focus on Wednesday. Wellbeing Committee members Jaz and Holly led their peers through a slime-making workshop and bracelet-making activities, giving students a fun way to recharge and fill their creative cups. It was also a great way for first- and second-year students to connect and recharge socially.

Thursday’s focus was on prioritising physical health and its impact on wellbeing. With a run club led by second-year leaders Alex and Sam, students were able to exercise with their peers. An Uber Eats raffle voucher added a fun incentive, and the morning ended with a coffee together. It is hoped that this encourages UC residents to start their days with exercise in nature—boosting serotonin levels, which are vital for positive mental health and optimal study outcomes.

The final day of Wellbeing Week began with a guided yoga and meditation session. Through a sound bath healing workshop, paired with stretching and free-form yoga, students were able to find their Zen. It was the perfect way to cultivate calm and promote mental wellbeing. The session was followed by a delicious catered afternoon tea, filled with sweet treats and savoury snacks to finish the week on a high note.

The week was an overall success, equipping students with practical tools and tips to navigate academic stress. A big thank you to Oscar and his committee, as well as Steph, for planning and coordinating such a fun and successful week of reset and recharge.
